Midpoint

We're just a little over halfway through 2017, and I've seen 20 of the year's films (so far). I thought that now would be a good time to rank those movies! Of course, this is just my opinion, one of many. But if you haven't seen some of the films in, say, the top ten, they try and watch them if/when you can.

Ok, here we go....

1. A Quiet Passion
2. Baby Driver
3. Get Out
4. Logan
5. Kedi
6. Kong: Skull Island
7. Norman
8. Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2
9. Wonder Woman
10. Split
11. Spider-Man: Homecoming
12. A Cure for Wellness
13. Ghost In the Machine
14. Alien Covenant
15. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales
16. Life
17. My Cousin Rachel
18. The Bye Bye Man
19. Baywatch
20. It Comes at Night

And there you have it.

I wanted to see Okja and The Beguiled before making this list, but just haven't had the time. Hopefully they'll appear on the year-end rankings. Until then, I'm anxious to see what movies the rest of 2017 has in store!

A Cool Breeze

Like so many others, I first met Jean Breeze when I was five years old. She would've been thirty-six at the time. Nearly forty-two years later, our time shared on this earth has come to an end. Jean was a kindergarten teacher at Westview Elementary School in Champaign, Illinois. Her classroom -- at least when I was there -- was at the north end of the school, facing John St. It had a row of windows that let in the sunshine, and it was filled with educational materials, toys and various knick-knacks accumulated over the years. We would take naps there every day. Ms. Breeze would read to us daily. It was a fun place to be. I remember my year there fondly.

Yesterday's Restaurants

The local newspaper has a feature from one of Champaign-Urbana's most legendary restaurateur's, John Katsinas, on what his favorite area restaurants were that have now since closed (or will soon be closing).  It's a nice little read, and has made me stop and think about the restaurants that have come and gone that have left an indelible (and edible) impression on me throughout the years. Here we go....

31 Days of Horror Movies: Thir13en Ghosts

While not a scholar or even a purist, I am somewhat of a film snob. Not a big fan of remakes, specifically when the originals don't need updating. It is therefore an unusual position I find myself in, preferring a remake to an original, and by leaps and bounds. Let's take a look at today's feature...
